The class explores the paradoxes of Argentina in the XXI Century: the effects of rapid modernization and the neoliberal democracy of the 1990s; cultural survival and the financial default in 2001; Nestor Kirchner, financial recuperation, and economic growth since 2003; the presidency of Cristina Fernandez with its unorthodox economic policies in the context of the financial crises of the developed world; the current administration of Mauricio Macri; and the challenges of Argentine cultural and economic integration in Latin America.
