Casting Call:

Theatre Arts Alumni

The program is in the process of enhancing our website and creating a brochure featuring the broad spectrum of careers that our graduates have created since leaving PENN. We'd love to hear what you are doing and if you would be interested in a 'role' in our brochure or website, please contact Eric Baratta, production manager, with information on what you are doing, links to your current job/organization and any photos you would allow us to use.

What does one do with a Theatre Arts major? Many of our graduates are working successfully in careers both in and out of the theatre.

Some majors pursue and receive advanced degrees in acting, directing, and other theatre studies at universities and conservatories such the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco; Brown/Trinity Rep; Cal Arts; Columbia University; University of Washington; and U.C.L.A.

Others undertake internships in literary management, dramaturgy, and theatre management with professional theatre companies such as the Actors’ Theatre in Louisville; the Pearl Theatre in New York; and local companies in Philadelphia such as the Arden Theatre, Interact Theatre, and the Wilma Theater. Several students have formed their own companies and organizations, notably WET (the Washington Ensemble Theatre) and Shun Pike, also in Seattle.

Numerous graduates work as actors, directors, dramaturgs, and teachers; they also work for producers, casting agents, and film production companies.

Theatre Arts has also produced graduates whose careers lead them in other directions, entering law school and medical school. One double major is an engineer; another is pursuing a doctorate in history. The career paths of Theatre Arts alumni are as diverse and successful as any accomplished graduate with a liberal arts degree.
