The Lady In Question
by Charles Busch
Directed by David Fox
"Never eat strudel baked
by a Nazi." This and many other All-American lessons are learned
by Gertrude Garnet, the tough tootsie protagonist in Charles Busch's play,
THE LADY IN QUESTION presented by the Penn Theatre Ensemble. Gertrude,
an American pianist so famous her eyelashes alone are worth over a thousand
dollars and so selfish she'd rather play "Freulings Farht" than
save an old lady's life, finds true love (and big trouble) when she tours
through Germany...the land of beer, Wagner, and terror.
In this lightning-paced comedy, six actors playing thirteen familiar characters pay homage to the world of movies such as "Notorious" and "Casablanca" where the American Way was Hard-Boiled and the German aristocracy knew how to treat a guest.
Welcome back to an era you thought America had forgotten.|
