Rebecca Bushnell, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of English, has responsibility for undergraduate curricula, programs, and students in the School of Arts and Sciences at Penn. Prior to her appointment as dean in July 2003, she served for five years as Associate Dean for Arts and Letters. Dean Bushnell received her Ph.D. on Comparative Literature at Princeton and has been a member of the Department of English faculty at Penn since 1982. Her scholarship focuses on early modern English literature, culture, and history. She is a recipient of Penn's Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, a former chair of the SAS Committee on Undergraduate Education, and a former director of the Presidential Commission on Strengthening the Community. Her most recent book is Green Desire: Imagining Early Modern English Gardens, a study of early English gardening books.
