SAS Curriculum Committee: Review of Major/Minor Proposals
Major Program
Review
The Curriculum Committee reviews all proposals for new majors and
other undergraduate programs for credit as well as changes to the
requirements of existing majors through the Curriculum Manager.
New proposals concerning majors are normally acted upon by the faculty
at its April meeting. Because they require more time to consider than
course proposals, the Committee would like to receive them by the end
of the Fall semester. Revisions to existing majors can be reviewed in the during the same term they are proposed.
Guidelines for Program
Proposals
The Curriculum Committee will evaluate the program proposals based
on the following criteria:
- Are there a sufficient number of courses to sustain the major/program?
- Are the associated departments fully in support of the major/program and is
there sufficient faculty interest to sustain the major/program over time?
- Is the structure for advising students clearly articulated?
- Is the structure of the major/program clearly articulated? Will a student understand how to progress from beginning to intermediate and advanced
course work?
