ASIA Fellows Program

UPIASI has been administering the selection process of the ASIA Fellows Program in South Asia since 1999. UPIASI in 2003-04 administered, on contract, the selection process in South Asia for the ASIA (Asian Studies in Asia) Fellowships 2004-05 awarded by the Asian Scholarship Foundation, Bangkok, and has currently, in 2004-05, just concluded administering the selection process of the ASIA Fellowships 2005-06. This program puts UPIASI in touch with wide networks of scholars in Asian studies all over Asia, particularly in South Asia. The ASIA Fellowships are awarded to scholars and others (public intellectuals, policy makers) who specialize in the study of other Asian countries, not necessarily within their sub-region, e.g. South Asia, but in any other Asian country. For the purposes of this program, Asia comprises three sub-regions: China, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. There are Regional Review Committees for each sub-region to select candidates from among applicants within the sub-region and forward this list to the ASF Board of Directors. A Conference of ASIA Fellowships Alumni from South Asia was held in New Delhi on November 7-8, 2004, supported by the Ford Foundation.
