Full and Part Time Landscape Internships at Penn

The Landscape Architecture group, within the Office of the University Architect, supports the University of Pennsylvania's mission by preserving and improving the campus landscape through design, planning, research, outreach, policy, and ecological initaitves.

They are looking to fill the following 3 internships: 

Part-time Spring-Fall Penn Park Orchard Outreach Internship

  • Develop and lead monthly Penn Park Orchard workdays for students, faculty and staff, in conjunction with Urban Park maintenance staff.
  • Develop outreach programming on orchard care, edible plantings, ecology and campus stewardship to Penn students and community partners.
  • Assist in estimating fruit harvest and sharing with wider community.
  • Prepare report for presentation to senior leadership.
  • Qualifications: knowledge of trees, horticulture, and environment; self-directed and able to work independently; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop programming, facilitate workshops, and build strong relationships with community members
  • Salary: $14-17/hr
  • Schedule: 10-15 hours/week, May-September

Full-time Summer Landscape Architecture Internship

  • Create a comprehensive map from field surveys showing existing gardens and planting beds on campus, including the various plant layers, relationships, seasonal interest, environmental aspects, and root morphologies.
  • Interpret ecological benefits and environmental characteristics, analyze existing and suggest new plant communities.
  • Preparing imaging and environmental assessment report for presentation to senior leadership.
  • Qualifications: must have excellent graphic skills with basic knowledge of Horticultural Database software and mapping (Photoshop, Canvas, AutoCAD, BG-Base, BG-Map, Garden Notepad, I-Tree); Must have knowledge of trees, horticulture, and the environment; strong initative and a creative self-starter; excellent writing and analytical skills; excellent research and communication skills
  • Salary: $14-17/hr
  • Schedule: 40 hours/week, June-September

Full-time Summer Penn Plant Explorer Internship

  • Assisting in the expansion of graphics and data for interactive web site showcasing Penn's significant tree collection, gardens, specialty landscapes and donor sponsored Class Trees
  • Gathering additional tree data such as photographs, narratives, bloom time, species descriptions, botanical drawings, history, USDA range maps, plant lists
  • Adding additional tours such as green roofs
  • Preparing imaging for presentation to senior leadership
  • Qualifications: must have knowledge of trees, horticulture, and the environment; strong initative and a creative self-starter; excellent writing and analytical skills; excellent research and communication skills; graphically oriented (Photoshop, Canvas, etc); knowledge of Horticultural Database software and mapping preferred (BG-Base, BG-Map)
  • Salary: $14-17/hr
  • Schedule: 40 hours/week, June-September
