SHADE Summer Institute Internship Program

SHADE Summer Institute Internship Program

The internship program is being sponsored by SHADE (Sustainable Humanitarian Architecture & Design for the Earth), a Hawaii-based group of professional architects, planners, local and state government officials, elected city and state representatives, university faculty, and community-based organizations who are working together to create more sustainable and resilient shared urban environments.

The SHADE group organizes an annual 2-month summer institute that offers real work-world mentoring, training, and education for next generation urbanists from Hawaii, the U.S. and Asia (graduate students, young practitioners, and future policymakers) through active participation in a model community-planning process that engages local stakeholders on a regular basis. Interns  are involved in all project development activities including visioning and community design workshops; assessments and field surveys; public meetings; preparation of work products (e.g. scale models, power point presentations, other written and/or graphic materials); and development of recommendations for proof of concept project implementation. In addition, they attend regular lunchtime discussions on a wide variety of topics led by local professionals and experts, and weekly meetings with SHADE mentors.

The deadline to apply has been extended to 3/27, 5pm HST
