Tutorial on Computer Graphics and Visualization

Friday, February 20, 2015 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Rainey Auditorium, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology

This illustrated Tutorial is designed to bring the most modern elements of 3D computer graphics and computer animation to advance digital humanities at Penn. The Tutorial is primarily organized around the concepts, vocabulary, and techniques required to model, render, and animate visually realistic 3D models. Although mathematical and programming details will be kept at an intuitive level, the necessary geometric and physical attributes for realism will be thoroughly explored. Topics will include: geometric modeling representations, light and color, illumination algorithms, surface and material properties, and animation techniques. The presentation will include case studies from Penn and elsewhere. An open discussion session at the end will interactively explore how digital visualization may be applied toward current faculty research questions.

The Tutorial is open at no cost to Penn Faculty, PostDocs, staff, and Graduate students. Due to limited seating, reservations are required and spaces will be filled in the order received. A coffee break sponsored by the ViDi Center is included.

To reserve your space, please register before February 10, 2015.
