BLACK (SUPER) MEN: REPRESENTATIONS OF BLACK MASCULINITY IN COMIC BOOKS

This project is the culmination of the Visual Studies Major at the University of Pennsylvania.  The Visual Studies Major is a multi-disciplinary major, combining disciplines  such as Art History, Fine Arts, Neuroscience and Philosophy, focusing on how visual perception has changed and evolved in a world of constant visual stimulation. For my thesis, I researched the representations of African American men in the comic medium.  The research involved the study of communication theory, critical race theory, art history and the comic book industry.
