GASWorks
is a group that began in 2004 at Penn to allow graduate students
working on topics in gender and sexuality studies from across the
university to share work. People are encouraged to present all kinds
of work in progress: dissertation chapters, articles, conference
papers, proposals, etc. The primary aim of GASWorks is to provide
a forum for students to get feedback on their writing; it also provides
a space for students working in different disciplines in schools
to keep up with recent developments in the field and to discuss professional
issues specific to working in an emergent field. The group is open
to graduate students and faculty across the university, and also
to members of the larger Philadelphia academic community.
Presenters
normally provide papers in advance, which are then made available
to participants through email. Each session usually begins with
a 10-15 minutes informal introduction by the presenter; the rest
of the time is taken up with discussion. If you are at all interested
in presenting something at GASWorks, please contact Heather Love
or Anika Kiehne.
GASWorks is possible with the support from Women’s Studies and
from the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center.
