In June of 2000, Robert and I celebrated our 10th anniversary by taking a family trip to Western Scotland. As vacations go, you might think a trip to Scotland would not be exciting for Pre-Schoolers, but Alex and Cate seemed to have a good time. Here are a few highlights of Scotland from a kids perspective.

Alex tries out the rope bridge in the Play area at the Clan Donald Centre, Sleat, Isle of Skye. This estate was beautiful and certainly worth a stop. Although the kids seemed to enjoy the play area the most, there were some nice Nature Trails as well the remains of Armadale Castle.

Cate preferred the rope ladder at the Estate, but she also enjoyed the Castle Gardens.
Cate poses at Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness. This day was excellent for rainbows, but no sign of Nessie. We visited the Official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition's Loch Ness 2000 to learn more about Nessie. The girls really enjoyed the walk through exhibit.

Alex poses inside a storage room of Dun Beag, Isle of Skye. Although officially known as Brochs, the girls referred to them as "Broken Castles" and enjoyed exploring the hollow walls. They even chose which storage room they would sleep in, if they lived there. This storage room is Alex's.

Cate surges ahead while hill walking (hiking) on the trail to Red Point, Torridon, Wester Ross. Upper Loch Torridon is in the background.

We walked about 6 miles that day with Alex in the lead most of the way. Cate walked about 1/2 the distance before deciding the view from my back was preferable. The trail was winding and rocky which is lots of fun for kids. The views of Upper Loch Torridon and the Atlantic were awesome.
