Publications
Currently a fifth year physics graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, I work in the lab of Professor Mark Devlin, part of the UPenn Experimental Cosmology group. The primary focus of my thesis research has been the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT), a 6m telescope located in the Atacama desert of Chile at an altitude of ~5200m (~17,000ft) on Cerro Toco. The camera, MBAC, designed and assembled in our lab, houses three arrays of 1024 transition edge sensing bolometers each, observing at 148, 218 and 277GHz. The goal of ACT is to map the sky over a large area (at this time ~800 square degrees have been mapped) in these three frequencies, measuring the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation anisotropies to unprecedented accuracy. Using the Sunyaev Zel'dovich Effect, we can blindly locate and map galaxy clusters, the largest virialized structures in our Universe. Their development with galactic time maps out the growth of structure, which has ramifications for the evolution of the Universe.

Prior to graduate studies at UPenn, I completed a Combined Honours Physics and Astronomy Bachelor of Science at the University of British Columbia. While there I worked with Professor Mark Halpern on aspects of the ACT and BLAST projects. BLAST is a balloon-borne telescope designed to be able to study dusty star-forming regions in our galaxy and the high-redshift dusty submillimeter galaxies. My senior thesis project was on the subject of applying extra dimensions to cosmology, supervised by Professor Moshe Rozali.
