Email Response from Francine Frankel

Dear colleagues:

I understand your concerns about CASI's invitation to Ram Madhav,
Spokesperson for the RSS on Monday, October 4th.  He will be making a
presentation  and answering questions about "
India's Political Scene After
the 2004 Election:  Where Does Hindutva Stand?

It is well known that the RSS has been the leading force in shaping the
Hindu nationalist movement since the 1970's.  It is the parent body of the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one of two national political parties that has
proven capable of leading a central coalition government.  It is not
possible to understand trends in Indian national politics without
comprehending the nature of the RSS-BJP relationship, and of the Hindutva
movement more generally.

This event, therefore, is in support of CASI's mission to provide objective
knowledge of
India's rapidly changing society, politics and economy, and the
transformation underway in an ancient civilization emerging as a major
power.

Sincerely,

Francine R. Frankel
