Individual oral tutorial sessions

Since we skipped the tutorial sessions on Lesson 13 before Spring break, we are making it up this week:

1.      Tell your 老师 to do the following. Pay special attention to the usage of  -sentence:

§  Put his/her pen on the desk

§  Give you his/her credit card

§  Hand your book to your 老师and ask him/her to return it to you

2.   Before you come for the tutorial, find out the following information on Penn website, and provide it to your 老师 when being asked.

§  The hours of Van Pelt library

§  What you can do there (e.g. borrow books/videos/audio tapes, watch video, read books/newspaper, do homework, use computer)

§  What document (student ID, credit card etc.) you need to have in order to borrow books/video/audio tapes from the library?

§  How many books/video/audio tapes can you borrow at a time, and how long can you keep them?

§  Can the books/video/audio tapes be renewed? How many times can they be renewed?

§  What happens if the checked item is overdue?

Homework: 1) Practice reading dialogue 2 (TB pp.59-60). Will check “memorization” on Monday; 2) CWB pp.27-30 & p.31 (crossword puzzle); 3 ) Study vocabulary: do "matching" on course website

Individual oral tutorial sessions

1.          TELLING LOCATIONS

You are in Williams Hall. Describe the location of the following places in reference to Williams Hall. You should also indicate if a place is near/far to another when asked:

§  the library (Van Pelt)

§  the computer center

§  the language lab (DRL)

§  the cafeteria (the 1920 commons)

§  the student activity center (Houston Hall)

§  Penn bookstore

§  the sports field (Franklin Field)

§  your dorm

2.          GIVING DIRECTIONS

§  Give directions from your dorm to Williams Hall (教室)/Penn bookstore/Franklin Field (运动场).

§  Tell your 老师 if you have been to Philadelphia Chinatown. If you have, how many times? And what did you do there? If you haven’t, do you want to go someday? And what do you want to do there?

§  Give directions to Chinatown from your dorm, use public transportations or walk. (Do some research if you don’t have first-hand knowledge. Or use the information from the class oral practice task. The most important thing is the accuracy of language use, not the direction itself.)
