Individual oral tutorial sessions

1.      Review—verbal aspects related to past:

Ask your 老师 if s/he has ever been to China?

Then find out

  • when did s/he go
  • how did s/he get there (by what means of transportation)
  • with whom did s/he go
  • where did s/he learn Chinese

2.     Frequency—tell your 老师 how often you

§  go home

§  go see movies

§  call your parents

3.     越来越…: increasingly

Use this structure to describe several pictures that your 老师 will be showing you.

4.     再说, … V

You received an invitation from your 老师, but you’ll have to turn it down. Please give two reasons as why you cannot accept it using the above structure.

Individual oral tutorial sessions

1Directional Complements & -sentence

Please ask your 老师 to bring, take or put three different objects somewhere.

Example: 请把这些药拿到楼上去。

§  a) book        take it out and put it on the desk

§  b) fruit         bring over

§  c) leftover food           take home    

1.      Conversation: 看病

Tell your 老师your most recent doctor’s visit. You don’t need to volunteer any information. Just answer questions.

§  your symptoms (e.g., allergic to dogs/alcohol ()/fish/medicine; pink itchy eyes; stomach ache, it’s so bad that you could die; diarrhea-you went to the bathroom several times a day)

§  treatment prescribed by the doctor (e.g., getting shots or taking medicine)

§  instruction for the medication (e.g. how often, when and how much you should take the medicine etc.)

§  fee for the visit (e.g., it costs $50 to see the doctor, or your health insurance pays $100 per visit, or you don’t need to pay because you have good health insurance plan etc.)

Homework: Preview vocabulary & characters in Lesson 17
