The view from my current office at the NMNH, Smithsonian Institution

Hello, and thanks for visiting my tiny little corner of the web. I'm a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania working on my Ph.D. in paleobotany, focusing on the evolution and morphological diversification of angiosperm leaf form. I'm currently in residence at the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.) to focus on my thesis project with my advisor, Dr. Scott Wing. Originally I hail from Rapid City, South Dakota, but as I was raised in Tempe, AZ and attended the University of Arizona (Tucson), I'd have to say I'm a desert rat to the core.

Like many geologists, I love to travel and to spend time outside. I'm particularly fond of hiking, camping, and backpacking, but I'll try almost anything. I am also a lover of reading, although I don't have much time for it these days. Thank goodness for subway rides, the public library near my house, and the chicklit website with its community of passionate readers and their excellent recommendations. I am fascinated by dry landscapes and the people that inhabit them, and I've had wonderful mini-adventures traveling through such regions in Egypt, Argentina, Mexico, and the western United States. On a goofier note, my favorite shoes are grocery store flip-flops (cheap and comfortable - you can't beat that), my favorite tree is the boojum, and my favorite comment on a report card (preschool) stated that I was a pleasure to have in class, but I couldn't color within the lines and I had a habit of eating paste.
