Observing the modern villages in Yassihoyuk region, we are able to glean the overall patterning of a complex socio-economic system, and its connection to the physical world, so that we may be able to create realistic models on how past societies functioned, with the use of archaelogical evidence.
Some human activities leave preservable traces in the archaeological record. The question is, then, what is the relationship of these visible clues to the activities that produced them in the past? Traces of structures, food residues, ash, dung, as well as manufactured artifacts in spatial context are retrieved archaeologically, but we need information from living social groups on how these traces/artifacts were generated from raw materials and later discarded. What were the factors affecting their destruction and subsequent preservation? |
