Homework Assignment #2

Chapter 3.2, exercise 4 (read the section on the Mean Value Theorem if you do not remember it).
Now, read the derivation of the Riemann sum for the length of a curve, Chapter 5.5 after "The Basic Formula". Think about how the Mean Value Theorem is used (not to be turned in).
Chapter 5.1, exercise 56 (using Maple).
Chapter 5.3, exercise 2, 16, 20.
Chapter 5.4, exercise 2, 23, 38.
Chapter 5.4, exercise 35. Try the disk method, too. Does it work?
Chapter 5.5, exercise 9, 19.
Here is a Maple worksheet for drawing a solid of revolution, similar to what I showed in class. Do you understand what it does? Try plotting some different solids of revolution. (not to be turned in).
