Application and Admission Information -- MCEP or MISEP

MCEP qualified applicants... However, we are no longer accepting any new cohorts or taking any new applications...

  • are teaching chemistry, biology, physics and/or physical science in a high school
  • have successfully completed a minimum of one year of college level General Chemistry for science majors which includes a full laboratory component
  • are highly motivated, hard working and organized – taking graduate courses while working is a challenge!
  • have a relatively new computer and cable modem or DSL internet access in their home
  • are able to attend Monday - Friday classes during the summer (last week of June through third week of August) and Saturday classes during the school year.
  • While a state teaching certificate is NOT required, realize that this is NOT a certification program.  The MCEP will allow you to add chemistry certification to an existing certificate (after passing the PRAXIS).
  • For information on PA certification see Penn's Graduate School of Education.

MCEP Applicants would have needed to supply:

  • an official transcript of all college chemistry coursework. Transcript(s) must demonstrate satisfactory completion of a minimum of 2 semesters of college level General Chemistry for science majors.  Also, you are expected to submit official transcripts for graduate degrees already held.
  • a completed application form which includes
    • Photocopies of teaching certificates
    • Written responses to four essay questions
    • For Core Partner applicants, a building administrator “partner” who agrees to attend the Administrators’ Science Education Academy
    • If necessary, the building administrator’s completed information sheet which contains two essay questions
    • Two (2) letters of reference (one from your building administrator partner)
  • a short interview will be held with each completed applicant during mid-November, mid-January or mid-March. Apply NOW and lock-up your spot!

MISEP qualified applicants...

  • are teaching middle grades (5 – 8) science in an elementary or middle school or ninth grade physical science
  • have successfully completed a minimum of one semester of college science and one semester of college math – or can provide evidence of equivalent content background gained in an academic situation
