Does the public service it provides justify Penn's exemption from taxation? And while Penn touts the diversity of its faculty and students, does it contribute to the racial and economic inequality in the neighborhoods where it has a presence? In a wide-ranging discussion, panelists outlined the case for Penn to pay the equivalent of taxes to support local public schools in its vicinity, although the exact form this might take was a subject of debate.

Panelists included Dennis Culhane, Professor and Dana and Andrew Stone Chair in Social Policy, Rick Krajewski, Candidate for Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 188th District, Devan Spear, Executive Director of Philadelphia Jobs with Justice, and Sarah Min, Penn Community for Justice.
