ANTH292 - BIOARCH PEOPLES OF PAST

This class introduces the field of bioarchaeology, the study of human remains in archaeological contexts, and is designed specifically for the reconstruction of the lifeways of peoples in the past. The focus of the course is on the population (rather than on the individual) level and covers much of human history and prehistory through a series of case studies. Using the basic techniques of analysis of the human skeleton, and in recognition of the dynamic nature of bone as it responds to changes in the environment, population parameters can be used to understand the efficacy of humans, both biologically and culturally, to respond to the ever changing physical environments of the globe.
