Email Eligibility Errors

Eligibility for a SAS email account depends on a few factors

  1. Students need to be formally enrolled in an SAS academic program.  This includes the College (full-time undergraduates), Graduate Division, or Liberal and Professional Studies.  Email eligibility typically becomes effective 2-3 days after the enrollment process is complete
  2. Faculty or staff need to be in the Penn payroll system.  Email eligibility typically becomes effective 1-2 days after being entered in the payroll system
  3. Students, faculty and staff all need to have a PennKey  Email eligibility typically becomes effective 1-2 days after registering your PennKey

If you are receiving an eligibility error, it is possible that there is a technical problem, but it is more likely that your information simply hasn't made it to us yet.  You need to wait until your information has updated according to the schedule listed above.

Students

Students can check enrollment status by calling the Penn Registrar Student Status verification line at 215-898-6636. If you are correctly enrolled, and you have already created your PennKey, then wait one more day and try again to create your account.

If your enrollment is not complete, you should follow up with your academic program

College Undergraduates should contact the College Office at 215-898-6341.

SAS Graduate Students should contact the Graduate Division at .

LPS Students (including Organizational Dynamics and Fels) should contact LPS at lps@sas.upenn.edu.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff can check their status with their department's Business Administrator. If they confirm that you are in the payroll system and you have already created your PennKey, then wait one more day and try again to create your email account. Faculty and Staff can also follow up with their Local Support Provider for further assistance.

"You already have an account" Errors

If you used to have an SAS Email account, your username has been locked to prevent duplication of past addresses. If you are once again SAS eligible, you can create your account once we have unlocked the username. Please fill out the form here.

If you are still getting eligibility errors

If you have already waited the appropriate intervals for system updates and already checked with the relevant program office to verify your status, then please fill out the Email Account Creation Error Form.  We will be in contact with you to help further troubleshoot the issue. Please be sure to provide a working email address, and your PennKey username.
