Hosting Audio & Video

  • Faculty & Staff

As of January 1, 2018 we are no longer creating new accounts on the media.sas.upenn.edu server and we plan to decommision that server on May 30, 2019.  Here are recommended ways to host audio and video materials for SAS classes and programs

Materials for teaching, where you want to limit access to Penn students or those enrolled in specific classes
Canvas

If you have a limited amount of material (less than 1 GB) you can add audio and video directly to your Canvas site.

Panopto

For larger collections, or materials that need to be accessed by multiple classes, then Panopto is the best choice.

Materials for public access
YouTube

SAS Computing can create a YouTube channel for individuals, departments and programs in SAS. These special YouTube accounts have all the functionality of regular YouTube channels, but are part of a managed account that allows us to do password resets and assign channel managers. This helps assure continuity of access over time as different people are involved in managing your channel.

SoundCloud

Soundcloud.com is the recommended solution for podcasts or other collections of audio materials for a public audience. Free and paid accounts are available. SAS Computing does not have a managed Soundcloud account, but we can help you set one up.

Materials to be shared with specific individuals
Penn+Box

Penn+Box is a convenient way to securely share audio & video (or other digital files) with specific individuals. Penn+Box is free to people with active full or part-time faculty, student, and staff affiliations. Just login at http://upenn.box.com to automatically create your account.
