PennO365 Account Closure FAQ

  • Faculty & Staff

Why is my PennO365 account being closed?

PennO365 accounts are available only to eligible faculty and staff with an active affiliation in the School of Arts and Sciences.  If you received a notification of account closure, you do not currently have an active affiliation with the School of Arts and Sciences and your PennO365 account will be closed soon.  If you believe that you still have an active affiliation, please follow up with your Local Support Provider for assistance with retaining your account.

Can I keep my SAS address and forward messages to a personal account?

By default, no.  When your PennO365 account is closed you can no longer have your @SAS email address forwarded to another account.  However, people with an academic appointment (faculty, some research staff) who have their @SAS email address referenced in publications can request that a forwarding address be put in place.   Please contact your Local Support Provider if you wish to request forwarding after your account is closed.

I am not currently teaching but will be in the future.  Can my account remain open?

Yes, if you are Lecturer that teaches on a per semseter basis an exception will be made to keep your account open.  Please contact your Local Support Provider for more information.

Can I move my messages or other account data to a personal account?

Yes, but you must act before your PennO365 account is closed. Once your account is closed you will not be able to retrieve email messages or any other data.

You can move messages from your account by following the instructions found here.  You can export your account's Calendar data by following the instructions found here.

Documents saved on OneDrive will not be accessible after you leave Penn and must be downloaded and saved locally before your PennO365 account expires.

I have installed Office from my PennO365 account, will it still work after I have left the University?

No. Office 365 ProPlus, Office 365 Online, and OneDrive for personal computers and mobile devices are available for your use as long as you are a fulltime faculty or staff member. After your account expires, you will not be able to install new or use current instances of O365 or use Office Online and OneDrive. Installed applications will enter reduced functionality mode. This means you will be able to view and print documents stored on personal computers or devices, but will be unable to create/save/edit files.  You will not lose any documents created and stored locally on your personal computers or devices. Documents saved on OneDrive will NOT be accessible after you leave Penn and must be downloaded and saved locally before your PennO365 account expires.

What if I used my SAS address to sign up for another service (e.g. Facebook)?

You will want to update your primary email address for any services that you have used your SAS address to create an account.  You may run into access issues if a password reset is needed and your SAS address is no longer functioning.

How can I get assistance with my PennO365 account?

If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact your Local Support Provider.
