Connecting & Installing SAS VPN FortiClient (MacOS)

A VPN Client is necessary when connecting to SAS resources either remotely or on WiFi.  Forticlient is the client SAS uses.

Please use the directions below for installing, establishing a connection to the SAS servers, and Connecting to Forticlient

  • As of 10/16/2019 Forticlient server settings changed. If you already have Forticlient installed, skip to Step 3 to update your server settings
  • As of 10/16/2019 Pulse will no longer be supported by SAS Computing 

 

  1. Manual InstallationGood for home and personal machines. 
  2. Automated InstallationFor machines patched and/or managed by your LSP and have IEM installed
  3. Adding/Removing/Editing a ConnectionSkip to here if you already have Forticlient Installed.
  4. Connecting to FortiClient

 

Installing FortiClient VPN - (Manual Installation) 

  1. Go to  https://upenn.box.com/v/FortiClient
  2. Download "MacOS_vpn_sas_FortiClient_Setup_xxxxx.dmg" to your local computer
  3. Double Click the downloaded DMG file, a new windows will open called "FortiClient"
  4. Double Click on Install to install the software.
    - Please refer to the troubleshooting at the bottom of the page if you get an error message
    - if you are prompted for a username and password, this is the username and password you use to sign in to the computer you are using
  5. When the Install FortiClient windows opens, it will be on the introduction, click on Continue
  6. On the Licensing window, click on Continue, then Agree
  7. On the Installation Type window click on Install when you get to the window that says The Installation was Successful and click Close

Go to section below on Adding/Removing/Editing a connection to EDIT your connection for the correct server.  

Installing FortiClient VPN - (Automated Installation)

  1. Open the IBM BigFix Self-Service Application (SSA) by clicking Command + SpaceBar and typing: BigfixSSA
  2. Click on the icon for FortiClientVPN
      
  3. Click GET

After serveral minutes you will be notified it has completed then go to Adding/Removing/Editing a connection to EDIT your connection for the correct server

 

Adding/Removing/Editing a Connection from FortiClient

  1. Click on the FortiClient Icon in the Menu Bar (very top of the screen)

  2. Click on Open FortiClient Console
  3. Click on the GEAR in the upper-right corner


  4. If you are deleting an old connection, choose Delete the selected connection then click OK.

  5. To edit a current connection
  • Click Save

You are now ready to connect to SAS VPN 

Connecting to FortiClient

  1. Click on the FortiClient Icon in the Menu Bar (very top of the screen)

  2. Move your mouse over and click on Connect to SAS VPN
  3. You will be prompted for a username and password. After you enter that information click on connect.
    same username and password used to connect to your work computer
    Please note as of 10/16/2019- Use the temporary username and password you've been assigned via SecureShare

You can now connect to your shares or connect you can use Remote Desktop as usual after waking up your machine.

Installation Error Messages: (Older OS's) 

When installing If you get the following message:

  1. Go to System Preferences


  2. Go to Security and Privacy

  3. Click Open Anyway

  4. Click on Open to begin the Install Process
