Graduate Student's Summer Translation Internship in Berlin

As a summer intern at the museum of the Stiftung Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum, Didem Uca assisted in the editing of, and translated into English, a new exhibition called, "Bleiben?! Juden im befreiten Berlin." The exhibition, on view through January 2014, follows the lives of Jewish individuals in post-WWII Berlin, examining their relationships with the city, each other, and the wider Jewish community. It explores the various reasons some of them chose to stay in Berlin, whereas others chose to emigrate. Didem had the opportunity to work very closely with the exhibition’s curator as well as the Stiftung’s director and associate director, gaining valuable connections to researchers in Berlin. Her translations appear alongside the original texts on the displays, allowing visitors who are unable to read German access to a fascinating and understudied topic.
