Kittler and the Human(ities) conference a success

On March 28 and 29, the Department of Germanic Langauges and Literatures hosted the Kittler and the Human(ities) conference centered on the theme of the shifting legacy of Friedrich Kittler's thought and German Media Theory today. Speakers included Mark Hansen (Duke), Sean Franzel (University of Missouri) and Antje Pfannkuchen (Dickinson), and the keynote was given by Geoffrey Winthrop-Young (UBC). Other events at the conference included "From Discourse Networks to Cultural Techniques: Material Text as Medium," an exhibition of rare books at Lea Library on Thursday, March 28, and "Kittler in Context," a lunch seminar with the speakers on Friday March 29. The seminar drew participants from Penn, Princeton, Drexel, Rutgers, and beyond.
