I am a fifth-year PhD student. Before coming to Penn, I studied Germanistik and Philosophy in Göttingen, at the University of Edinburgh, at Washington University in St. Louis, and in Tübingen. My dissertation explores 'Kunstgespräche' around 1800: texts that present conversations and discussions about art and aesthetics. I attempt to elucidate the texts' generic traits, and establish the 'Kunstgespräch' as a literary genre. Also, I am preparing a comprehensive study ('Leben, Werk, Wirkung') on German painter Christian Ferdinand Hartmann (1774-1842).
