How can the classroom make connections and contributions to the world beyond the academy while also protecting the need for critical inquiry that challenges administrative imperatives for efficiency and practicality?  How can graduate students think about realizing feminist, queer and radical commitments over time in institutions driven by those imperatives?  And, what is the role of activist pedagogy in building and sustaining an intellectual life and career?  Based on her course "Theorizing Activism," part of the "Critical Inquiry Labs" series offered by the Consortium for Critical Interdisciplinary Studies (made up of Africana Studies, American Studies, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies) at Barnard College, Professor Jakobsen will discuss pedagogical approaches to making a difference in challenging times.
