The Alice Paul Center’s Visiting Scholars Program provide opportunities for scholars from all disciplines to conduct independent research related to gender and sexuality while in residence at the University of Pennsylvania.
Scholars will be provided with shared office space at the Center, a Penn email account, and library privileges. The Center will help to identify opportunities to connect with GSWS scholars across Penn’s campus and to present work-in-progress to the GSWS community. Visiting scholars also will be given the opportunity to organize a symposium on an area related to their research. Scholars are expected to participate in Center programming. Travel, housing and living expenses are the responsibility of the Visiting Scholar. This is an unpaid residence.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its equivalent in hand at the start of affiliation. Preference will be given to candidates with a distinguished research profile. Residency may range from 3 months to one academic year. Scholars must be in residence throughout the requested timeframe of the appointment.
Please be advised that we are unable to sponsor visa applications at this time.
Application packet must include: 1) a completed online application form; 2) a Research Plan (up to 1,500 words in length) addressing how a residency at Penn will advance the scholar’s current or intended project. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please explain how you will address immigration restrictions; 3) a curriculum vitae; and 4) contact information for two recommenders. Up to one published writing sample may be included with the application. Indication of preferred length and specific dates of residency are also required.
Applications are due April 1, 2019. Decisions are made by the end of April.
