Title: Probing TeV physics with ThO: a tighter bound on the electron’s electric dipole moment
Abstract: We report on our recent measurement of the electron’s electric dipole moment (eEDM) using a cold beam of ThO molecules, with sensitivity more than an order of magnitude greater than the best previous result. This improvement was made possible by experimental upgrades that enhance the control of systematic errors and increase the number of detected molecules. Several new systematic error mechanisms were discovered, and their effects were suppressed to a level below our statistical sensitivity. We describe the implications of our result, an order-of-magnitude-smaller bound on the eEDM, and prospects for further improvements to the experimental apparatus.
