Language Requirement & Placement for Wharton Students (Entering Fall 2017 or Later)

Language Requirement & Placement for Wharton Students (Entering Fall 2017 or Later)

Students entering Wharton in 2017 or later fulfill the Wharton foreign language requirement by completing two semesters of beginning language (SPAN 0100 and SPAN 0200/0210) or by demonstrating that they have achieved an equivalent level.

Many students enter Penn having already satisfied the language requirement, either via the SAT II or with an appropriate score on the AP or IB Higher Level examinations (see below). It is important to make sure that an official record of your scores has been sent to Penn and that they are posted to your record. Nonetheless, it is a good idea to bring an official copy of your scores to Penn.

Students with previous knowledge of Spanish who have not already fulfilled the language requirement are required to take the in-person Departmental Exam during New Student Orientation (NSO). Make-up exams are offered a few times a semester.
