I received my B.A. in English and Portuguese Studies from the University of Lisbon in 1999, my Master's in French and Portuguese Medieval Literature from the University of Lisbon in 2004, and my Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature with an emphasis in Medieval Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2014. I have taught at the University of L'Aquila, the University of Salerno, the University of Strasbourg, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. My research focuses on medieval and early modern literature and manuscript culture affinities between France, Castile, Galicia, Catalonia, and Portugal, more specifically the Sete Partidas by Alfonso X, the Arthurian romance, and the Crónica Geral de Espanha de 1344. At Penn I have been teaching Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, Portuguese for the Professions, and also literature, cinema, culture, and history of the language from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau focusing on colonization, independence, minorities, race, and gender. I love traveling, horror movies, and dive bars.
