Matthew Lane is responsible for the financial and administrative infrastructure that supports the School’s research and education programs, with oversight of finance, budget, human resources, facilities, computing, and research administration.
Lane was Interim Vice Dean for Finance and Administration from January-July 2014, while also serving as the School’s Executive Director of Facilities Planning and Operations, a position he had held since 2011. He previously was Executive Director of the Department of Chemistry at Penn Arts and Sciences. In this role, he had management responsibility of all non-academic aspects of the chemistry department, including facilities, HR, IT, and financial planning. He has also served as the Director of the Office of Budget and Decision Support at Penn Arts and Sciences, a role which included School-level financial planning and financial management.
Lane completed his undergraduate degree at Earlham College and his graduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania Fels Institute. His career has primarily been focused in government and non-profit finance and operations management with a number of years served at the Dade County Administrative Office of the Courts (Miami, Fla.) and the City of Philadelphia Streets Department. He began his career at Penn in 2001 as a budget analyst in Penn Arts and Sciences.
