Congratulations to Luna Sarti, Ph.D. Candidate in Italian Studies, for being selected as a 2019 Penn Arts and Sciences Dean's Scholar. This prestigious award is given to nine SAS graduate students per year "who exhibit exceptional academic performance and intellectual promise." It's a richly deserved honor!

Published online with the support of the Penn Libraries, Bibliotheca Dantesca is the result of a collaboration among the students of Penn’s Italian Studies doctoral program, its faculty, and the Center for Italian Studies.

On Saturday Nov. 10, The Center for Italian Studies and the Italian Studies Department held the seminar "Italian Studies in American Higher Education Today," as part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Center and as a professionalizing experience for the graduate students in the Ph.D. program.

On Sept. 28, at the end of a wonderful week featuring his three Rosenbach Lectures in Bibliography at the Kislak Center, distinguished historian Carlo Ginzburg (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa - UCLA) was invited by Prof. Eva Del Soldato to visit the Section and the Center for Italian Studies and to meet with the graduate students in the doctoral program in Italian Studies, with whom he generously shared ideas and experiences.

AATI Prize Awarded to Nick Demarie

Undergraduate student Nicholas Demarie, minoring in Italian Studies, has been awarded the first prize in the College Essay Contest of the American Association of Teachers of Italian for his essay "Dio, la materia, l’uomo: L’originalità del pensiero di Giulio Cesare Vanini (1585-1619)," written for the course ITAL540, "Plato and Aristotle in the Renaissance” (Prof. Eva Del Soldato).
