John A. Miller, PE, CFM, CSM

Lecturer, Master of Science in Applied Geosciences

John A. Miller joined FEMA in August 2018 as a Mitigation Liaison. He is a member of the FEMA Integration Team, embedded with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management to be a risk adaptation resource to the State and enhance coordination between the agencies. Previously, John worked for the private consultancy Princeton Hydro, LLC, for 15 years as an Associate and Water Resources Engineer, practicing design, conducting reviews, and preparing expert reports and delivering expert testimony before land use boards and the courts. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and is a Certified Floodplain and Stormwater Manager.

John is the Vice Chair of the planning board for the City of Lambertville, NJ, and a member of the City's Emergency Management Council. He was the City’s FEMA Community Rating System Coordinator from 2011 to 2018. Additionally, John is a former chair and co-founder of the New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management, a chapter of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), and was the Legislative Committee Chair from 2007 to 2018. He served on the ASFPM board from 2006 to 2009.

John holds a Master of Environmental Studies with a concentration in environmental policy from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Villanova University. While a student at Penn, John interned at the White House Office of Management and Budget, was a US Senate Fellow, and collaborated with Dr. Howard Kunreuther and colleagues from the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center.
