The graduating Class of 2017, along with family, friends and faculty, packed the Zellerbach Theatre at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, May 14. The ceremony celebrated the 265 graduating students from Penn’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS).

Vice Dean Nora E. Lewis welcomed Dr. Angela Duckworth, the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, as the guest speaker. Angela is a leading researcher in the studies of grit and self-control. She is also the Founder and Scientific Director of the Character Lab, a nonprofit whose mission is to advance the science and practice of character development. A 2013 MacArthur Genius Fellow, Angela has advised the White House, the World Bank, NBA and NFL teams as well as Fortune 500 CEOs.

Several students in the Class of 2017 received awards for their leadership, dedication, service and academic excellence. Take a look at the full list of student award recipients and the faculty who received 2017 Distinguished Teaching Awards.
