Alumni Stories

Andrew Henry

Bachelor of Arts, Messiah College, 2010

In addition to serving as an archaeology research assistant, Andrew has volunteered for one season on the Pyla-Koutsopetria Archaeological Project in Larnaka, Cyprus, helping to catalog and analyze artifacts excavated from a 5th-century Christian basilica. His research interests include the religions of Late Antiquity, specifically early Christian theology, patristics and the persistence of Roman polytheism in Late Antiquity. Andrew’s senior research paper examined the motivations behind the clergy’s denunciation of laypeople using apotropaic objects, such as amulets, during the 4th–5th centuries C.E. Andrew credits his time in the post-baccalaureate program with solidifying languages and helping him determine how to market himself between Ancient History and Religious Studies. Andrew is currently pursuing a PhD in Early Christianity at Boston University.
