Course Description: 

The family represents a fundamental and ubiquitous institution in the social world, providing norms and conveying values.  This course focuses on the current sociological research aimed at understanding the modern American family.  We will examine family change from historical, social, and demographic perspectives. The main learning objective of this course is to develop a “sociological imagination” - a way of seeing the world through the lens of this discipline.  In doing so, you will read critically, and develop your writing and research skills.
