The Nonhuman, the Subhuman and the Superhuman: Exploring Nature(s) in the Middle East
Participants: Graduate Student Conference
Location: Ben Franklin Room, Houston Hall

This conference is open to different ways of constructing nature — material, representational, or metaphysical. A wide range of academic disciplines and approaches will be represented as panelists consider topics as diverse as nature in Arabic or Persian poetry, ingredients in alchemy and medicine, fountains and the use of water in human environments, medieval philosophers on nature, representations of natural space, and the political economy of oil. The conference will be divided into several panels with Chairs and Discussants leading an interactive discussion to follow panelist presentations.

For more information on the conference please contact the MEC Program Assistant, James Ryan, at jamryan@sas.upenn.edu.
