Slingshot Hip-Hop Screening
Presenter: Dr. Eve Troutt-Powell, Yuval Orr
Location: Huntsman Hall, Room 265
Slingshot Hip-Hop is a 2008 documentary that braids together the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank and inside Israel as they discover hip-hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty. From internal checkpoints and Separation Walls to gender norms and generational differences, this is the story of young people crossing the borders that separate them.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion led by Yuval Orr, a senior in the College writing his thesis on youth hip-hop movements in Israel and Palestine. Yuval spent a month living in Ramallah as research for his thesis.

Free food from Manakeesh Bakery will be served!
