Constructions of Islamic Law and Theology among ISIS Foreign Fighters
Presenter: Graeme Wood
Location: Fisher-Bennett Hall 231

The Islamic State's supporters have been derided as fools and petty criminals. Intellectually, they are depicted as wholly disengaged, or as submissive to a brain-dead, ignorant version of Jihadi-Salafism. Graeme Wood will discuss instances of legal and theological creativity among the group's supporters, and the idiosyncratic constructions of law and religion that animate its foreign fighters.
