Healing As History: The Body and Body Politic in the Middle East and North Africa
Presenter: Ellen Amster, Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine, Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine, Department of History, McMaster University
Location: Williams Hall 205, 255 S. 36th Street, Philadelphia PA, 19104

Using the example of Islamic Sufi saint healing in Morocco and Moroccans' assimilation of French colonial biomedicine, Dr. Amster argues that the quest for therapy is political. The body reveals the body politic, beacuse sovereignty is by necessity corporal.
