The Age of Aryamehr: Late Pahlavi Iran and its Global Entanglements
Presenter: Dr. Roham Alvandi, Associate Professor of International History, Director of the IDEAS Cold War Studies Project at the London School of Economics and Political Science
Location: David Rittenhouse Laboratory, Room 2C6

In this lecture Dr. Roham Alvandi will explore the impact of the Cold War and decolonization on Pahlavi Iran in the 1960s and 70s, and the response of the Pahlavi state and its opponents to those two major global processes. He will examine how Iranians embraced the language and divisions of anti-imperialism and Third Worldism to develop contending narratives of 'Westoxification' and the 'Great Civilization', which in turn shaped global history with the shock of the Iranian Revolution.
