The Middle East Center at Penn sponsors and supports programs and initiatives across the disciplines and professional schools, and runs a dynamic outreach program in the Delaware Valley. Faculty and students at Penn are also active and prominent in the field of Middle East studies, making significant and highly regarded contributions to scholarly output in their areas of interest. Dr. Tahani Amer, Dr. Firoozeh Kashani-Sabet, Dr. Golnaz Vahedi Please join us for a fascinating panel discussion on women and STEM in the Middle East. The panel discussion features Dr. Tahani Amer (Senior Technologist, NASA), Dr. Firoozeh Kashani-Sabet, Professor of History, University of Pennsylvania) and Dr. Golnaz Vahedi (Assistant Professor of Genetics, Penn Medicine). The panel discussion will be moderated by Penn Graduate Women in Science and Engineering. Lunch will be served.

Hisham Fageeh Please join us for an evening with Saudi comedian Hisham Fageeh. Hisham's talk will deal with the state of satire and comedy in Saudi Arabia. Hisham will be in conversation with Dr. Marwan Kraidy, Professor of Communication and the Anthony Shadid Chair in Global Media, Politics and Culture, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania. Hisham Fageeh is best known for his YouTube channel (especially the video No Women No Drive) and for the 2016 film Barakah Meets Barakah, now available on Netflix.

Gönül Tol Please join us for a talk on the state of Turkish Democracy given by Gönül Tol, the founding director of the Middle East Institute's Center for Turkish Studies. Dr. Toll is also an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at George Washington's University's Institute for Middle East Studies.
