My research interests focus, topically, on South African Catholic choral music and more theoretically at conjunctures between music, linguistic anthropology, cultural anthropology, tourism studies, post-apartheid, and post-colonial studies. More specifically my research focuses on the tourist site of Regina Mundi, a Roman Catholic church in the township of Soweto located just southwest of Johannesburg. I am interested in both how music and language are used to negotiate space within this tourist location, and how the differences in discursive constructions of Regina Mundi establish the dichotomized spaces within which these negotiations take place.
