As a Chinese citizen who has studied in five different countries, I am interested in the musical exchange between the East and West. Inspired by my own experience of learning piano in China and participating in choral singing when I was attending high school in Singapore, I am passionate to explore the significance of Western Classical music education outside the Western context. My past researches include female piano pedagogy in modern China, Chinese school songs (Xuetang Yuege) during the early Republican China and the construction of the Eastern World in Puccini’s Orientalist operas.

Besides my academic commitment as a musicology PhD student, I am also an active pianist and singer. Currently I am also working as a part-time intern at the Philadelphia Orchestra and doing research for the Orchestra’s strategic partnership programs in Asia.
