Eugene Narmour Honored With Society of Music Perception and Cognition Achievement Award
Narmour, a founding member of SMPC, has developed theories of music cognition, perception of stylistic form and content, and the structural similarities between painting and music. His work has prompted psychologists to further explore the process of melodic implication. Narmour has three published books including: The Analysis and Cognition of Basic Melodic Structures, Beyond Schenkerism: The Need for Alternatives in Music Analysis and The Analysis and Cognition of Melodic Complexity: The Implication-Realization Model.
The SMPC is a scholarly organization dedicated to the study of music cognition. It aims to advance education and public understanding of this field.
