After five years of service, Eve Troutt Powell, Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of History and Africana Studies, is stepping down as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. Ralph Rosen, the Vartan Gregorian Professor of the Humanities in the Department of Classical Studies, is now serving as Interim Associate Dean. An eminent scholar of Greek literature and intellectual history, Rosen previously held the position of Associate Dean for Graduate Studies from 2008 to 2013 and has also served as Chair of Classical Studies and Director of the Center for Ancient Studies. He is currently Faculty Director of Riepe College House.

Steven J. Fluharty, Dean and Thomas S. Gates, Jr. Professor of Psychology, Pharmacology, and Neuroscience, commented on Troutt Powell’s “exceptional contributions to graduate education in the School and at Penn,” including strengthened ties with graduate chairs and coordinators, a strong commitment to enhancing graduate student diversity, and her “steadfast and caring commitment to the academic success and well-being of our talented graduate students.” The Dean’s office will undertake a search for Troutt Powell’s permanent successor this fall.
